When you find a great vintage dress that you want to modernize.
This vintage dress had so much potential, but it was a lot of fabric. I started off by removing the sleeves and neck ruffles, and cut the dress in half–say goodbye, elastic!! I redraped the skirt with a more playful volume by adding pleats to the lightweight, drapey fabric. I then shortened the hem sides to add a more casual menswear throwback.
Next, I draped the top to mimic the skirt pleats, cut a waistband to draw attention to the waist, and added an exposed zipper to add an element of surprise to the back. There you go!
My mission is to get as many garments that ALREADY exist BACK into rotation, so I alter/upcycle garments 1 year or older, and repair garments of all ages.
Updating old forgotten pieces is my passion ❤️ If you have something email me info@rethinktailoring.com with questions or to set up an appointment at my Powderhorn studio. Storefront opening soon!
