Couch Cover to Blazer

When you find an old couch cover on Nextdoor…

Occasionally I scour Nextdoor to find textiles that people are getting rid of and that I think may have a hard time finding a new home. I reached out to the neighbor who was giving this away and said if nobody claimed it over the coming weeks, I could definitely use it! Turns out it was a hard fit for modern couches, so I inherited this fabulous floral couch cover. I liked how it was worn out in certain areas, as everyone has their favorite spot to sit on the couch.

I cut the quilted seat portion of the cover as the body of the coat and pockets, and used the other non-quilted parts for the sleeves. I also used the couch piping to finish off the edges of the coat because why not? And to finish it all off, I made a matching button for the closure. Best part? I still have more material! Expect more pieces in the future!

RETHINK Tailoring & Sewing Lounge is coming soon! Originally I had planned to sell this, but I’m pretty sure there’s no way I’m letting this one go! But there will be oh so many other upcycled, one-of-a-kind pieces for sale, both in store and online!

Here’s to the future of fashion! ♻️
